In an effort to uplift socio economic conditions in the country, the government of Sri Lanka introduce an open economic policy and encouraged investment opportunities for both Sri Lanka an and Foreign investors by demarcating certain areas of the country as“ Free trade Zone” to set up industrial ventures with generous incentives such as – tax free benefits, repatriation of foreign investment over a period of time, importation of customs dutiable goods free for use in approved ventures.

As result of these overtures, Sri Lanka has suddenly blossomed out to be one of the fastest growing industrialized countries within the South East Asian region.

Simultaneously, the government set up a separate unit known as the Board of Investment (BOI) as ‘one stop' authority to handle all investment inquiries, negotiate and process until all established ventures falling within the ambit of the Governments representing business interests from developed countries have visited the country on ‘fact finding ‘missions which has resulted in several factories being set up within the specially demarcated zones that qualify for the incentives offered.

Encouraged by this influx, local entrepreneurs too, have proliferated particularly in the garment sector which industry has the potential to generate job opportunities. In consequence, as a special concession the Government permitted garment factories to be set up in most past of the country with a view to providing employment to the people of the area. Construction of factories warehouses, housing units, etc. are now progressing at tremendous face.

To keep face with this development activity, and in order to ensure quicker delivery, the government has been compelled to improve and expand various infrastructure facilities and in collaboration with the private sector, new roads, are being constructed and existing roads improved, port and airport facilities, container yards are being improved and established.

To cope with this expansion programmed, those involved in the building and civil Engineering sector are complete to increases their facilities and provide a more efficient and quicker service.
